What We Feed Our Dogs
By:  Christina Riley-Goedertier

We are often asked what we feed our show and working dogs to keep them in top condition. In addition to the diet below, we also give our dogs plenty of exercise (swimming and playing with a ball are our favorites) and daily grooming. Feel free to contact us a rkrotts@earthlink.net with any questions about our feeding and conditioning program.

We feed our dogs and puppies Redwpaw 32/20 (www.redpawfeed.com) mixed with sunflower oil, Fastrack (microbial supplement) and Vertex (www.naturmix.com). We occasionally add raw meat, cooked pasta, plain yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna and raw eggs (including shells).

We look at each individual dog to determine the amount of food they receive. We like our dogs lean and muscular, never fat. We have found that feeding raw meat makes a significant difference in muscle tone and overall condition. Each adult dog consumes between 2- 3 pounds of raw beef per day, depending on their size and activity level.

All dogs are fed in an elevated feeder (shoulder height) with stainless steel bowls that are disinfected after each feeding with Rocal D or bleach. It is important to maintain excellent hygiene when handling raw meat.

We give all of our dogs a raw knuckle bone every couple of weeks to keep their teeth clean.
